Tonight: HotChaCha, Prisoners, London Vs. New York
Jovana Batkovic has one of the coolest voices in music today. Sometimes raspy, sometimes sweet, her snide contralto is the confident and comfortable centerpiece for Cleveland's punk-leaning HotChaCha. Sitting somewhere between indie-pop, shoegaze, and art-rock, this band has built up quite a reputation for their energetic live shows and well-crafted records: their latest Exit Stencil release, Fantastic Static, is a great example of how to be noisy without being inaccessible, and calls to mind the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth('s better stuff). They are going to be returning to town tonight to play with Buffalo's own accessible-art-punk outfit London Vs. New York, and fellow Ohioan indie band “Prisoners,” who are definitely worth Googling ahead of time, but, well... good luck. The show is at Soundlab, starts at 8, and is only $5.
